Leaving the sweatbox of the Day's Hotel behind we heaved our bulging day packs onto our backs and headed to King's Cross station, arriving at the customs checkpoint just after 9:40am. Even though this is an international border control station it was much more relaxed and freer flowing than either LAX, Heathrow or Glasgow airports. This may be because this point is manned by French border control, with their laissez faire French attitude, or, they actually have security in perspective. Whatever it is we gratefully sauntered through and headed straight for the Caffe Nero for some breakfast. By the time we had finished eating, and I had withdrawn some Euros from the money machine, it was time to head up the moving walkway to our Eurostar train. For the first time on this trip I missed a sign and we headed up to the wrong platform. On these platforms there is no reverse walkway, so you cannot turn around and go back. Luckily one of the station staff noticed my mistake and escorted us to the correct platform, via the security coded lift.
